The best adjectives are specific enough to show a clear picture. Learn them in contrasting pairs and use them with people, places, and situations you know. A good description combines an adjective with evidence: explain what the person does, says, or looks like.
Personality and behavior

honest | telling the truth | He gave an honest answer. |
patient | able to wait without becoming annoyed | You need to be patient with yourself. |
reliable | someone you can depend on | A reliable teammate arrives on time. |
sociable | enjoying meeting and talking to people | He is sociable at work events. |
thoughtful | showing care for other people | That was a thoughtful message. |
Appearance and first impressions

neat | tidy and well organized | She keeps a neat desk. |
polite | showing good manners | The polite student thanked the receptionist. |
serious | quiet and focused rather than playful | He looked serious during the meeting. |
smart | wearing attractive or formal clothes | Everyone looked smart at the ceremony. |
Choose a precise word
Word | Meaning | Example |

shy | quiet because you feel nervous with people | The shy student spoke after the lesson. |
confident | sure that you can do something | She felt confident before the interview. |
energetic | full of energy and ready to act | Our energetic guide walked ahead of us. |
reserved | quiet and not quick to share feelings | He is reserved with new colleagues. |
creative | good at making new ideas | The creative team found a simple solution. |
Be careful with words that look similar but describe different things. A careful person checks details; a carefree person does not worry about problems. A serious person is focused; a considerate person thinks about other people’s needs.
Build a stronger description
Choose one adjective and write a real example of the behavior.
Add a contrast: “She is calm, but her brother is energetic.”
Use two adjectives in a short description without repeating “very”.
Describe, do not only label
Short label: Mina is reliable. Stronger description: Mina is reliable because she arrives on time and finishes the tasks she promises to do.
A quick practice routine
Choose one person from your family, class, or workplace.
Write two personality adjectives and one appearance adjective.
Add one example of behavior so the description feels fair and clear.
Read the description aloud and replace one repeated word with a more precise adjective.
A precise adjective does more work than a long list of general words.
