A clear overview of the information English Test Kit may use to provide, improve, and protect the site.
About this policy
This policy explains how English Test Kit handles information when you visit the site, create an account, use a test, or use a learning resource. It applies to the public site, account features, tests, practice content, and learning resources.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use the site, we handle the following information:
- Account information: your name, email address, email-verification status, and account security information such as password, two-factor authentication, and passkey records.
- Learning information: answers and in-progress test state can be held temporarily in your session. When you use authenticated features, completed scores, CEFR estimates, test records, XP transactions, streaks, achievements, and related account activity can be retained with your account.
- Contact information: if you use the contact form, we store the name, email address, and message you submit so the support team can review and respond. We also retain the form's submission time and delivery status.
- Technical and security information: session identifiers, IP address, browser or device information, request details, and diagnostic or security records needed to operate and protect the site.
- Preferences: choices stored in your browser, including cookie choices and display preferences.
How we use information
We use information to provide accounts, tests, results, practice content, and learning resources; remember your progress; review and respond to contact messages; authenticate users; protect the site from abuse; diagnose errors; maintain security; and meet legal or operational obligations. Where applicable, these activities rely on providing the service, our legitimate interests in operating and securing it, legal obligations, or your consent for optional technologies.
Public profiles and leaderboard
Student profiles are public by default. A public student profile can show the student's name, selected avatar, XP, level, streak, completed-test count, and unlocked achievements, and it is included in the public XP leaderboard. Teacher profiles can show the teacher's name, image, biography, teaching focus, and published content in the teacher directory.
Students and teachers can make their profile private from Profile settings. Private student profiles are removed from the leaderboard and their public profile returns no result. Private teacher profiles are removed from the teacher directory. Changing this setting does not delete the underlying account or learning records.
Bot protection
We use Cloudflare Turnstile on contact, login, registration, password-reset request, and administrator authentication forms to help distinguish people from automated submissions and protect accounts and support workflows. Turnstile may process security signals such as your IP address, TLS fingerprint, user-agent information, sitekey, and the associated site origin. These signals are used for bot detection and security, not for advertising or profiling by English Test Kit.
Cloudflare processes these signals on our behalf to provide the service and may also process them as described in its own Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
Advertising and analytics
The current site does not sell personal information or load third-party advertising services. Google Analytics is an optional analytics service and is loaded only after you allow analytics cookies. It is handled according to Google's privacy notice and your cookie choices.
Retention and security
We keep information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, while an account or learning history remains active, or as required for security, dispute resolution, or legal obligations. Contact messages are retained in the support inbox for as long as they are needed to handle the request, follow up, and maintain a reasonable service record. Session records expire according to the site's session settings, and operational logs are rotated according to the hosting and security configuration.
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including access controls, authenticated sessions, encrypted connections where supported, and security monitoring. No internet service can promise absolute security.
Your choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or request a copy of your personal information. You can make your profile private from Profile settings and change optional cookie choices from Cookie Settings. We may need to verify your identity before completing a privacy request.
