The most useful vocabulary is vocabulary you can use today. Start with a small group of words, say each example aloud, and connect the word to something you can see or do. This guide groups common A1 words into short, useful situations instead of one long list.
At home and in your routine

routine | the usual way you do things | My morning routine starts at seven. |
quiet | with very little noise | The library is quiet. |
tidy | clean and organized | I keep my desk tidy. |
neighbor | a person who lives near you | Our neighbor has a friendly dog. |
habit | something you do regularly | Reading is a useful habit. |
drawer | a box that slides into a desk or cabinet | The keys are in the top drawer. |
shelf | a flat place for keeping things | The cups are on the kitchen shelf. |
laundry | clothes that need washing or are being washed | I do the laundry on Saturday. |
prepare | to get something ready | I prepare my bag before bed. |
relax | to rest and feel calm | I relax with a book after work. |
Plans and everyday places

enough | as much as you need | We have enough time for a coffee. |
early | before the expected time | She arrived early for class. |

entrance | the place where you go into a building | The entrance is beside the café. |
market | a place where people buy food or other things | We buy fresh fruit at the market. |
available | ready to use or easy to get | Are there any seats available? |
together | with another person or group | We usually study together. |
later | after now or after another time | I can call you later. |
Useful words in short phrases

have breakfast | eat the first meal of the day | I have breakfast before class. |
make an appointment | arrange a time to meet | I need to make an appointment with the dentist. |
go shopping | visit shops to buy things | We go shopping on Saturday morning. |
take a break | stop working for a short time | Let’s take a break after this exercise. |
get home | arrive at your home | I get home at six o’clock. |
Talk about your day
Example: I usually get up early and prepare my bag. I have breakfast at home, then I walk to the market. Later, I get home and relax.
Make the words active
Choose three words and point to a real example of each one.
Say the example sentence twice, then change one detail.
Join two words in a short phrase, such as take a break or get home.
Use one of the words in a message or conversation before the day ends.
A word becomes easier to remember when it is connected to your own life.
