Westbridge School tested a walking route for six weeks to reduce congestion at its entrance. Families could meet a supervised group at a nearby public car park and walk the final ten minutes together. The trial ran on three mornings each week. It was intended to help families who lived too far away to walk the entire journey. Teachers counted fewer cars stopping directly outside the school on trial mornings. Parents also reported that children arrived more settled. Participation was strongest in dry weather, and several parents said the meeting time was too early for their work schedules. The school did not measure whether total car travel in the area had decreased, so it could not claim that the trial had reduced overall emissions. The school plans to continue the route while testing a second meeting time. It will keep supervision arrangements unchanged and record participation in different weather conditions. Organisers believe the trial supports changes around the school entrance, but they want more evidence before recommending the same arrangement to every school in the town.
