Finding Details in a Course Prospectus
Northside Learning Hub Spring Prospectus A note from the coordinator We have introduced shorter courses because many learners balance jobs and family life. These study options are designed to fit a busy week. Practical Writing for Everyday Life This ten-week class is for adults who want to fill in forms, write clear emails, and understand simple notices. Lessons take place on Tuesday evenings from 6.30 to 8.00. The room is on the first floor, next to the library. Students can use the computers there before class starts. The standard fee is £45. Anyone with a discount card pays £30. The prospectus uses short headings and helpful pages so busy learners can compare course details quickly. Who is the course for? The course is not aimed at people who already write confidently at work. It is for learners who need extra support with short, accurate writing. After each lesson, students take home a small task. The tutor checks these tasks quickly so that mistakes do not build up. Quick feedback matters more than long homework sheets because people remember advice better when they can use it at once. The class also prepares learners for a short visit to the local council office, where they will practise asking for information politely. Anyone missing a lesson can read the notes on the student website, posted the same night. Practical advice Bring a notebook, a pen, and, if possible, a folder for handouts. Hot drinks are not allowed in the room, but water bottles with lids are fine. The centre strongly recommends arriving ten minutes early. The class often begins with a five-minute review of the previous lesson. The course is most useful for people who want to become more independent in daily life. It is not intended for those who hope to study advanced writing later. A follow-up course will run only if enough students ask for it. If you are unsure, check the front page first, then read the timetable and the short advice section before enrolling.

What to review next
Find the words that support each answer. For a mistake, compare the question with the evidence and identify the detail or inference you missed.
A focused practice result shows how you did on these tasks. Use several activities across skills to decide what to study next; one practice score does not certify an overall CEFR level.
Before you practise: a worked example
Look for evidence in the text. Separate what the writer says from what you already know about the topic.
The library normally closes at six, but on Fridays it stays open until eight. When does it close on Friday?
The answer is eight. But introduces an exception to the normal closing time, so the first time mentioned is not the answer.
This teaching example is separate from the scored questions. After your test, compare any mistakes with the explanation and revisit the topic before trying again.
