Maya Chen's Volunteer Note for Riverside Festival
Maya Chen is the volunteer coordinator for the Riverside Community Festival. She asks new helpers to meet at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday at the school gate, where they will collect badges and bright yellow vests. The first task is to place signs near the food tents, then guide visitors to the music stage before lunch. Volunteers should drink water often and tell Maya if they need a short break. The festival closes at 6 p.m., but the clean-up team stays until 6:30. Maya says smiling and speaking slowly helps families feel welcome, and she thanks every volunteer for keeping the day calm and friendly. She also reminds them to wear comfortable shoes for long hours outside.
Setting Up the Festival Music Night
Mia and Omar helped at Riverside Community Centre for the summer festival. On Tuesday, they moved chairs and checked the small stage. Mrs Lee, the organiser, asked Mia to tape the poster to the library window and told Omar to test the microphone. At first the sound was too low, so he turned the dial until it worked. The team chose three local songs and one drum dance from the youth club. In the evening, neighbours brought juice and paper flags for the tables. Mia liked the busy hall because people from different streets talked and smiled. She said the event felt more like a welcome than a show. Children clapped near the door, and the last song made the room feel warm.
Four Stallholders at the Community Festival
Paragraph 1At the community festival, four stallholders explain what they need. Maya sells jars of strawberry jam. She can bring her stock, but she needs two tables and one chair. Tom makes wooden toys. He must arrive before nine to set up, and he asks for help while he goes to lunch. Leila runs a tea stall. She does not need electricity, but she needs a kettle of hot water. Ben sells flowers. He only wants a small sign, because people often walk past too quickly. The organiser says there will be volunteers at the gate, not at the stalls. A music band will start after lunch, so the stalls must stay open until three o'clock.

What to review next
Find the words that support each answer. For a mistake, compare the question with the evidence and identify the detail or inference you missed.
A focused practice result shows how you did on these tasks. Use several activities across skills to decide what to study next; one practice score does not certify an overall CEFR level.
Before you practise: a worked example
Look for evidence in the text. Separate what the writer says from what you already know about the topic.
The library normally closes at six, but on Fridays it stays open until eight. When does it close on Friday?
The answer is eight. But introduces an exception to the normal closing time, so the first time mentioned is not the answer.
This teaching example is separate from the scored questions. After your test, compare any mistakes with the explanation and revisit the topic before trying again.
