How to approach this practice
Read the passage for its main idea, then return to the relevant sentence or paragraph for each question. Base answers on the passage.
Mrs Green and the Open Day
Mrs Green teaches Year 3 at Maple Street School. She says the open day is useful because families can see the classrooms, hear the students speak, and ask questions after the lesson. In her view, a short visit gives parents a better idea of daily school life than a leaflet does. She does not think people need to stay for the whole afternoon; even twenty minutes can help. The day also makes children feel proud when they show their work. Mrs Green asks families to come with calm questions, because the teachers want to talk, not to rush. She hopes the visit will make new families feel welcome.
Riverbank School Open Day Notice
Dear families, We are happy to invite you to our school open day on Saturday, 10 June. The gate will open at 9:15 a.m., and the first tour starts at 9:30. Please book a place online before Wednesday evening, because we have room for only 40 visitors in each tour. At the front desk, parents can collect a blue map and a badge. After the tour, join us in the hall for tea and short talks from teachers. If you cannot come, email Mrs Lane, and she will send you your timetable. Please arrive a little early, and bring your smile. There will also be signs near the gate to help visitors find the hall.

On Friday, Mrs Lee showed the helpers a simple plan for the school community exhibition. The welcome desk is in the upper centre, next to the main door, so families can get a map first. The art display is in the upper left, where the wall is bright. The science table is in the upper right, because it needs more light. In the lower left, the book swap is quiet and easy to reach. The refreshment stall is in the lower right, near the exit, so people can buy juice before they leave. Tom says this layout is best because visitors can move round the room without crossing back and forth. Mrs Lee nodded and smiled.

What to review next
Find the words that support each answer. For a mistake, compare the question with the evidence and identify the detail or inference you missed.
A focused practice result shows how you did on these tasks. Use several activities across skills to decide what to study next; one practice score does not certify an overall CEFR level.
Before you practise: a worked example
Look for evidence in the text. Separate what the writer says from what you already know about the topic.
The library normally closes at six, but on Fridays it stays open until eight. When does it close on Friday?
The answer is eight. But introduces an exception to the normal closing time, so the first time mentioned is not the answer.
This teaching example is separate from the scored questions. After your test, compare any mistakes with the explanation and revisit the topic before trying again.
