Choosing Activities at a Holiday Camp
Last summer, Anna and her brother Max went to Sunny Lake Holiday Camp for a week. Each morning, all the children met in the big hall to choose their activities for the day. There were many options, such as swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, tennis, and nature walks. The camp leaders explained each activity and told the children what they needed to bring. For example, children who wanted to go swimming had to bring towels and goggles, while those joining arts and crafts needed colored pencils and glue. Anna liked being outdoors, so she often picked canoeing and nature walks. Max preferred sports and spent most of his time playing tennis or swimming with his new friends. Every afternoon, there was a group game for everyone, like a treasure hunt or a relay race. At the end of the week, the camp held a talent show where children could sing, dance, or show their crafts. Anna was nervous but enjoyed showing her painting, and Max played a funny song on his guitar.

Before you practise: a worked example
Look for evidence in the text. Separate what the writer says from what you already know about the topic.
The library normally closes at six, but on Fridays it stays open until eight. When does it close on Friday?
The answer is eight. But introduces an exception to the normal closing time, so the first time mentioned is not the answer.
This teaching example is separate from the scored questions. After your test, compare any mistakes with the explanation and revisit the topic before trying again.
