Changes to the Town Bus Service

The town bus service will change next Monday. The first bus into the centre will leave at 6:30 a.m., and buses on the main route will come every 20 minutes until 6:00 p.m. After that, they will run every 30 minutes. The bus company says the new plan is made to help people who travel to work and school. It will also add two new stops, one near the library and one near the hospital. Drivers will follow the new timetable on every day of the week. Passengers can buy a new weekly pass for students, which costs less than the old one. Older people can still use their bus cards as before. However, there will be no late-night bus on Fridays, because too few people use it. The company asks travellers to check the new times before they go, and notices will be put up at the main stops.

What to review next

Find the words that support each answer. For a mistake, compare the question with the evidence and identify the detail or inference you missed.

A focused practice result shows how you did on these tasks. Use several activities across skills to decide what to study next; one practice score does not certify an overall CEFR level.

Before you practise: a worked example

Look for evidence in the text. Separate what the writer says from what you already know about the topic.

The library normally closes at six, but on Fridays it stays open until eight. When does it close on Friday?

The answer is eight. But introduces an exception to the normal closing time, so the first time mentioned is not the answer.

This teaching example is separate from the scored questions. After your test, compare any mistakes with the explanation and revisit the topic before trying again.
