How to approach this practice

Read the passage for its main idea, then return to the relevant sentence or paragraph for each question. Base answers on the passage.

A Morning in Green Park

On Saturday morning, I meet Mia and Ben in Green Park. I like the cool air there. Mia smiles, “A picnic is a good idea.” I do not like cake, so we pack apples, juice, and a blue blanket, then walk to the grass today.

Mia and Ben at the Market

On Saturday, Mia and Ben went to the market. Mia bought apples, bread, and cheese from a red stall. Ben chose bananas and water. They sat by the fountain and ate lunch. Mia liked the market because the fruit was fresh and the people were kind.

Mia and Ben at Green Patch Garden

On Saturday, Mia and Ben visit Green Patch Garden. First, they sit at the blue bench by Area 1. Then they water the tomatoes near Area 2. Mia likes the flower corner best. Ben does not like the noisy gate, so they finish at the quiet pond in Area 3.

    1. Yes
    2. No
    3. Not Given
    Check answers and explanations
    Answer
    No

No. The passage says, “I do not like cake,” so the writer does not like cake. Yes is wrong because it gives the opposite meaning, and Not Given is wrong because the writer's feeling is stated directly.

    I do not like cake
  3. Question 3 · Yes / No / Not Given

Decide whether the statement agrees with the writer’s or speaker’s view. Choose Not Given when the view is not stated.

Return to the passage, recording or visual
    1. Yes
    2. No
    3. Not Given
    Check answers and explanations
    Answer
    Yes

Yes. The writer clearly says, “I like the cool air there,” so the statement is correct. No would be wrong because the writer shows a positive feeling, and Not Given would be wrong because the opinion is stated directly.

I like the cool air there.

Because Ben does not like the noisy gate.

They finish at the quiet pond because Ben does not like the noisy gate. The passage gives this reason directly. The other choices are not stated as the reason.

Ben does not like the noisy gate, so they finish at the quiet pond in Area 3.

Because Ben does not like the noisy gate.: Correct. The passage gives this as the reason.

What to review next

Find the words that support each answer. For a mistake, compare the question with the evidence and identify the detail or inference you missed.

A focused practice result shows how you did on these tasks. Use several activities across skills to decide what to study next; one practice score does not certify an overall CEFR level.

Before you practise: a worked example

Look for evidence in the text. Separate what the writer says from what you already know about the topic.

The library normally closes at six, but on Fridays it stays open until eight. When does it close on Friday?

The answer is eight. But introduces an exception to the normal closing time, so the first time mentioned is not the answer.

This teaching example is separate from the scored questions. After your test, compare any mistakes with the explanation and revisit the topic before trying again.
