A message for bookshop staff
Read the transcript
Hi everyone, this is Lucy from Greenleaf Books. Here is some information about your Saturday shift. Please arrive at half past eight, not nine as usual. A large delivery of books is coming before we open, so we need a little more time to get ready. The front door will be locked when you arrive. Use the side entrance beside the bike stand, and I will let you in. First, please help me take the boxes into the back room. We will put the books on the shelves after that. The shop opens to customers at ten. Bring your own lunch this week because the cafe next door is closed. You can eat in the upstairs staff room, where there is a fridge and a table. Your lunch break is at one. If you cannot come on Saturday, please call me on Friday afternoon. Do not wait until Saturday morning. Thanks, and see you soon.

What to review next
Listen again to difficult sections, then open the transcript to check what you heard. Repeat a useful phrase aloud and try the recording once more without the text.
A focused practice result shows how you did on these tasks. Use several activities across skills to decide what to study next; one practice score does not certify an overall CEFR level.
Before you practise: a worked example
Listen for the final information, especially when a speaker corrects or changes an earlier statement.
Example transcript: “Let’s meet at five — actually, half past five would be better.” What is the final suggested time?
The final suggested time is 5:30. Actually signals a correction; the first time is replaced by the later suggestion.
This teaching example is separate from the scored questions. After your test, compare any mistakes with the explanation and revisit the topic before trying again.
