A change to a weekend booking
Read the transcript
Receptionist: Good afternoon, Lake Hotel. How can I help you? Alex: Hello. My name is Alex Reed. I booked a double room for two nights, from Friday to Sunday. My Friday train has been cancelled, so I need to arrive on Saturday instead. Receptionist: Let me check. Yes, I have your booking. Will you still leave on Sunday? Alex: Yes, please. We can only stay for one night now. Receptionist: That is fine. We have a twin room available on Saturday, with two single beds. I am sorry, but we cannot offer you a double room that night. Alex: Two beds are fine. Is breakfast still included in the price? Receptionist: Yes. Breakfast is from seven until ten. You can check in any time after three in the afternoon. Alex: Good. We expect to arrive at about four. Could you send the new booking details to my email address? Receptionist: Certainly. I will email them to you this afternoon.

What to review next
Listen again to difficult sections, then open the transcript to check what you heard. Repeat a useful phrase aloud and try the recording once more without the text.
A focused practice result shows how you did on these tasks. Use several activities across skills to decide what to study next; one practice score does not certify an overall CEFR level.
Before you practise: a worked example
Listen for the final information, especially when a speaker corrects or changes an earlier statement.
Example transcript: “Let’s meet at five — actually, half past five would be better.” What is the final suggested time?
The final suggested time is 5:30. Actually signals a correction; the first time is replaced by the later suggestion.
This teaching example is separate from the scored questions. After your test, compare any mistakes with the explanation and revisit the topic before trying again.
